I had written earlier this year (a few months ago actually) that due to illness both the girls had been on a “prey style” raw diet for about 6 weeks and done well on it. Once I was feeling better and able to exercise them again Pepper lost a little weight, but edie remained fine. I put them both back on a “Billinghurst style” diet, and Pepper was a healthy weight once again. Edie on the other hand didn’t want to eat her veggies, and it seemed to increase the frequency of bouts of vomiting/diarrhea that she had been having since February (after extensive medical tests the doctors could find no cause of this). Putting her back on a “prey style” diet has almost eliminated these episodes for her, and now that we know the symptoms she shows before she has one a day or two of fasting is usually all she needs to avoid it.
Personally, I don’t think either “style” is better than the other, but I think some dogs do better on one style than the other. Pepper obviously needs the small amount of vegetables in her diet to keep her at a healthy weight, but Edie doesn’t need to gain weight, and in fact does poorly with the veg. They’re two different dogs, and need two different things.
this saturday I will be getting a SCB order w/ a few new items; will update about them in the next week or so.
