Okay, So…My SCB Order!

So I was finally able today to go down and get my SCB order for this month. Some quick thoughts on what I got:

Duck Necks: Got these before, and they’re much smaller this time around. About 4oz each, whereas the last time they were at least 8oz each. I may have ordered them at a different time of year, so the ducks might have been more mature, and therefore larger. I really didn’t want these, but Pepper loves duck, and I needed something to add variety. I probably won’t order them again for a while, but they’re a nice product and seem like they would work well for smaller dogs as well as medium sized dogs (though they’d be too small for bigger dogs).

Pork Stew Meat: More fat than I anticipated. It wasn’t horrible, but I had to pick out about 8oz of just fat. Anyway, it’s in nice sized chunks, that once thawed is pretty easy to separate. Though this is nice I think I will go back to the ground pork after we use this up. But the 10lb size is really good for people like me who don’t feed a lot of pork or who don’t have lots of animals to feed. 

73% Lean Ground Beef: This is actually a Moran’s ground beef chub like you can find in a million grocery stores. I really, really like these and had I know what they were I probably would have ordered another 10lbs at least. I don’t think these will always be available since they’re not in the shopping cart currently and I’ve never seen them there before. It’s a shame because they’re a great product, but expensive in the stores, and again the size of 2/5lb chubs is great for people like me.

Instincts Ground Lamb: This is a boneless product made from 80% lean lamb trim. Again, lamb is one of those things that’s been tough to find a product that I like. I actually really liked the Dog Gone Good 100% lamb (ground lamb necks), but we don’t get that anymore, or at least I haven’t seen that specific product for a while. Since then I’ve been on the hunt, which is easier now since Pepper has decided lamb bones are edible without being ground. This isn’t bad, but I’m not thrilled with it for reasons I can’t quite define. I probably won’t get it again since I’d like to try the lamb necks, though again the size (2/5lb) makes it nice for people who need things in smaller amounts.

So, I think that is all for now. We won’t have another order for quite some time (4 months or so) since we only have the one dog now. So…until next time…
