In The Dish

After Thanksgiving Sales

I kind of wish I hadn’t ordered any turkey necks the last time I placed a SCB order. Last night we had to swing by the grocery store and I saw the after thanksgiving sales. They did have whole turkey’s as well as turkey necks and turkey tails. The turkey’s that were 10-20lb each were on sale for $5 flat no matter the size, and no limit to how many you could buy. Turkey necks and tails were cheap. The packages I saw were probably 2lbs each and priced right around .65-.70 cents and the tails were the same price. They had smaller turkeys (4-5lbs each) that were in the bargain bin, but didn’t appear to be marked down.

Anyway, the whole turkeys worked out to .25-.50c per pound, which is quite a bit cheaper than the necks through SCB (.73c/lb). So I think next year I’ll hold off on ordering any turkey around this time and then just stock up after thanksgiving. I won’t buy enough for a whole year, but 2 or 3 turkeys would last us quite a while.
